We are located in Blaine, WA. and have been in the business of helping others for over 9 years. We started because a friend ran into some rough times and the paperwork that was required to be told that it would take up to 60 days to get funding was a shame. By the time that funding was approved for a 181 dollar electric bill the family had been without power for over 45 days,Government agencies ask for a shut off notice but 9 times out 10 the funding will not be approved before the shut off has happened. So there was a need for someone to step in and step up to provide a helping hand to those in need. Utility companies do not care that they might get paid in 60 days or more, they want the money before the shut off date, or off the utility goes.
So as we approached opening a non profit and the paperwork involved for the Government and the IRS, more than once, we stopped and asked if it was worth it, but in the end it was more than worth the effort and the time. We are proud to say that 99 percent or more of every dollar collected is given back to the communities in the way of asssitance. All of out staff is volunteers, the office space is provided free of charge, the only items we pay for is office supplies, phones and electric. So we can give more back and quicker than the larger charities. That being said, it also means that we do not get or have the millions of dollars that larger charities have. But that is ok, we funded over 32,000.00 USD in request last year (2014) and our goal this year is 50,000.00 in request.
